History

Fanny Bay Harbour Authority was established in 2002.  Small Craft Harbours (DFO) notified the local users of the facility, that the users of the facility must manage the harbour with a not-for-profit society format. A board of directors were elected, and an operational mandate was struck via the constitution.

The harbour has historically had a shellfish focused user group. Today, that fishery group makes up 85% of the paid users.  The dock is at full capacity and has a list of people waiting for access. 

In 2011, the board recognized a need for expansion, particularly with respect to loading and unloading of aquaculture equipment and products. SCH had a new design, that they were promoting and the Board, with the assistance of SCH, was able to significantly upgrade the facility to what we now have… a concrete float that allows for easy on and off loading of materials to assist the local industry.  In 2012, construction began. Financial assistance contributions were made by Western Economic Development, ICE-T, Community Futures, Small Craft Harbours, and Fanny Bay Harbour Authority. Being able to directly load shellfish into refrigerated trucks to send product to market, has been a significant asset to the industry. Infrastructure equipment is more safely loaded into vessels at water level, than was previously available.

Grid Use Conditions of use – $100 / day

Use of the tidal grid is at your own risk.

Use of the tidal grid must be in accordance with approved facility policies and procedures. No cleaning of anti-fouling paints (e.g., pressure washing, blasting, sanding, etc.) or application of new anti-fouling paint to vessel hulls unless all wastes and run-off are collected and disposed of appropriately.

Deposit ALL waste materials in the designated waste containers in accordance with facility policies and procedures.

Vessel owners should have appropriate quantities of absorbent materials on hand when doing vessel work with the potential for spillage of petroleum products.
